Gazprom says has lost $800 mln due to gas transit halt Russia’s natural gas monopoly Gazprom has suffered U.S. $800 million in losses from the halt of natural gas transit through Ukraine and the shutdown of a number of wells in the first 10 days of this year, the company’s Deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev said.
Medvedev blamed Ukraine for the gas crisis and said Kiev would have to provide compensation for the company’s direct and indirect losses.
Gazprom stopped supplying gas to Ukrainian consumers on January 1 due to a dispute over prices and Ukrainian oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy's debt for gas supplies. Last week Gazprom also halted gas transit through Ukraine to Europe after accusing Naftogaz Ukrainy of diverting transit gas for its own purposes.
