PARIS -- Novatek has to complete a reorganization before Total can buy a 25 percent stake in the gas producer, Russian Industry and Energy Minister Viktor Khristenko told the French daily newspaper Le Figaro. Paris-based Total, Europe's third-largest oil company, agreed in September 2004 to buy the stake and has been waiting for approval from the Russian Federal Anti-Monopoly Service. Khristenko told the newspaper that as far as he knew, an overhaul of Novatek had to be "totally achieved" for the transaction to be approved. Russia's anti-monopoly authorities will then decide, he said. (Bloomberg) |
