The first high-speed Internet-based television service in Russia came online Wednesday, offering more than 80 television channels along with pay-per-view movies and other entertainment for a monthly fee. Sistema Multimedia -- the digital media arm of AFK Sistema -- plans to build Stream TV on the back of its ADSL subscriber base of over 150,000 in Moscow, the company said in a press release. The service allows a normal television access to programming from an Internet connection. A company spokesman said the company was pricing the service to compete with satellite television. A first-tier subscription comes with nine English-language channels. (MT) |
