Russian-German trade turnover could reach a record level of $40 billion in 2006, Russian President Vladimir Putin said speaking at the Russian-German St. Petersburg Dialogue Forum in Dresden on Tuesday.
"We will reach a record level of $40 billion this year," Putin said.
Trade turnover between the two countries in the first quarter of 2006 alone was $20 billion, and it will definitely be no lower than $40 billion by the end of the year, he said.
Russia's trade turnover with Germany accounts for 10% of its overall trade turnover with foreign countries, while that with the U.S. accounts for just 4.4%, Putin said. "This level of cooperation imposes a high responsibility," he said.
"It was a pleasure for me to hear that Russian investment in Germany will be welcomed," Putin said, adding that this is not always the case with some other countries. "You should not be afraid of movement of capital to places where there are better conditions for its employment," he said. |
