The government of Germany speaks for a mutually advantageous compromise between Russia and Ukraine on the gas issue, its press office said.

The government of Germany is closing watching the process of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on the gas issue. Germany is unambiguously interested in the quickest settlement of the gas dispute by way of achieving a mutually advantageous compromise to ensure the reliable deliveries of Russian natural gas to Germany and Western Europe via the Ukrainian pipeline, its press office said.

The European Commission has scheduled an extraordinary meeting of EU energy officials for January 4 to agree on a single position and discuss the possible consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian gas row.
