Russia and Ukraine plan to cancel duties on tobacco products traded between the countries as of 2006, and on sugar from 2009, the Russian Economic Development and Trade Ministry's press service said Monday.

A protocol to this effect was signed by the Russian ministry's deputy head, Vitaly Savelyev and Ukrainian Deputy Economic Minister Andrei Berezny.

The sides also agreed to cancel duties on Ukrainian alcohol exported to Russia as of January 1, 2010.

Russia and Ukraine signed an intergovernmental agreement on free trade on June 24, 1993.
