WHY RUSSIA?
• During 2009, Alabama exported over $343 million of goods and services to
Russia. This was a 11% increase in Alabama exports to Russia, as opposed to the
42% decrease nationally during the same period.
• Top Alabama products include industrial machinery, aircraft and parts, electrical
machinery, chemicals and articles made of iron/steel and rubber. Best prospects
for Russia include industrial/electric machinery, medical instruments, aircraft/
aerospace parts, plastics, essential oils, articles of iron and steel, vehicles and
parts, various chemicals, and many others.
• An emerging middle class with disposable income is fueling demand for
automotive products, household goods, financial services, retail products and a
healthcare system.
• A major construction boom is creating a need for equipment and materials.
• Opportunities for services and equipment are growing for infrastructure upgrades
in power generation and telecommunications, as well as in the oil and gas field
